Jay’s Music Academy began with two individuals from very different worlds—Julian from New Jersey, where music was as natural as breathing, and I (Hermeline) from Haiti, where music became my refuge.

Julian’s childhood overflowed with sound—from The Beatles and Motown to the classical rhythms his parents played at home. Music wasn’t just background noise; it was his first language. He connected with it deeply and earned recognition early on for his dedication and musical gifts.
In Haiti, I connected with music through the hymns and 90s American worship songs—like those of Michael W. Smith—played on my father’s Christian radio station. The soulful harmonies of church choirs gave me comfort and strength throughout my adolescent years. Music was never just a hobby—it was a lifeline. But unlike Julian, I had limited access to formal music education, making the dream of pursuing it feel distant. Even after relocating to the United States, that dream still seemed out of reach.
Twenty years later, our paths divinely crossed in New Jersey. I was studying Strategic Communications while staying connected to music in every way I could—taking adult music lessons, enrolling in music theory classes, forming a band, and singing in my church choir. Julian had built a strong reputation as both a musician and educator. Despite our individual successes, we both felt something missing: the spark that once made music feel magical.

🎶 Our Breakthrough in Music EducationÂ
Life transitions—adolescence, adulting, relocation, and self-doubt—had dulled our connection to music. Julian faced bullying that made him question his passion, while I battled feelings of inadequacy in unfamiliar musical spaces. Music, once our sanctuary, had faded into the background.
In our search for purpose, we began singing together again. Julian continued teaching in schools, and I balanced music with consulting work. But we wanted more. One day, I turned to Julian and said:
“Why not teach privately? You love it. You’re great at it. Let’s open a music studio.”
And so, Jay’s Music Academy (JMA) was born. Originally called Jay’s Music Studio, we rebranded to reflect a deeper purpose: to provide a nurturing, high-quality music education that helps children grow—not just musically, but personally.
🌱 Why We Believe Music Is for Everyone—Especially Children

At Jay’s Music Academy, we believe every learner—young or grown—deserves the chance to unlock their potential through music. Not someday, but every day. As adults, we carry a little child within us who still needs nurturing too.
Whether you’re an adult learner like me, rediscovering the joy of music from your childhood, or a parent whose child is curious and eager to explore their interest in music, JMA is here to nurture that spark. We meet learners where they are, helping them grow with confidence, creativity, and purpose.
🎵 Did You Know?Â
• For children, music builds confidence, creativity, and focus.
• For tweens and teens, it becomes a form of self-expression and emotional support.
• For adult learners, it’s a pathway back to joy and rediscovery.
Music can be a lifelong companion—one that supports emotional, social, and cognitive growth at every stage of life.

🚧 Tackling the Barriers to Music Education
If music offers so many benefits, why aren’t more children and adults engaging with it? In our experience—both personal and professional—we’ve identified three common barriers:
• Accessibility – Limited scheduling options, cost concerns, and lack of flexible learning formats.
• Trust – Families need to feel confident in the educators guiding their children.
• Loss of Interest – Lessons that don’t adapt to a learner’s personality, interests, or home life can quickly become disengaging.
At JMA, we remove these barriers through a nurturing, personalized approach. We believe music education should be a right, not a privilege. Every child and adult deserves the opportunity to grow through music.
That’s why we don’t teach music in isolation—we develop people of character. While performance is part of our curriculum, we emphasize intrinsic connection first—helping students internalize music before expressing it outwardly. This leads to deeper engagement and more meaningful performances.

🎯 Our MissionÂ

Teaching music that helps kids grow — and grown-ups too!
We provide personalized lessons, expert mentorship, and a nurturing environment where music becomes more than a skill—it becomes a lifelong companion that builds confidence, creativity, and resilience.
🌍 Our Vision
Music for every child, in every home, in every school.
Our vision is to make music education accessible and inspiring for all, so every learner can experience the transformative power of music.

🎹 Elevate Your Music Learning Experience

Loss of interest is often the biggest barrier—but it’s preventable. With the right coach, mentor, and cheerleader, students thrive. That’s what worked for us—in music, business, and life.
Trust and accessibility are also barriers we address by getting to know each family and individual personally. Through our Meet & Greet Studio Tour and Mini Lesson Experience, we build relationships that make music education feel approachable and achievable.
JMA is more than a school. It’s a gateway to creativity, confidence, and growth—a place where learning feels joyful, not stressful.
✨ Our Signature Program: “Elevate You!” Music LessonsÂ

Students don’t need years of struggle to see results. With the right environment, progress happens quickly—and joyfully.
We’ve learned that true progress doesn’t come from more practice alone—it comes from fun, nurturing, and personalized learning. Through expert-led private lessons, group classes, and ongoing coaching, our students don’t just learn to play—they learn to think, create, and connect through music. These are life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
