What are the benefits of Private Music Lessons?
Private lessons offer intermediate and advanced students direct attention to focus on their musical learning goals. The one-on-one attention allows students who have shown commitment to practice and desire to grow their musical skills to receive greater individual attention and focus on developing their musical styles and personal discipline. At JMA, our private lesson spots are reserved for students ages 5+ who have taken the Introduction to Piano class or have had prior lessons for at least 6 months. These private lessons focus on the student’s musical goals and how to attain them. We create short-term and long-term goals to help intermediate and advanced students reach their highest potential.

What are the benefits of Group Music Lessons?
Group lessons are perfect for beginner students. Generally beginner students will thrive in a group lesson setting because of:
- Musical Interactions: Making music together is the most impactful way for students to engage with Music learning. It is designed to be interactive, and students develop confident performance skills—greater Musicianship!
- Collaborative/Peer-to-Peer Learning: When Students learn together and have a common goal, they work as a team, and each student is motivated and invested. Working as a group achieves games, songs, and creative tasks. Students are motivated and encouraged by each other and learn together as we do in every other area in the school setting.
- Creative Opportunities: We incorporate creative learning opportunities such as improvisation and compositions. Our topics are inspiring and relevant so students can learn essential musical skills and concepts efficiently. Play as an ensemble and make music with others; music-making is at the heart of our lessons.
- Variety of Activities, including the use of games, movement, and singing
- Secure Foundations: Our cyclical approach is the ideal learning structure for students because it helps them consolidate and review concepts while deepening their learning. The careful building blocks and scaffolding ensure our students have a secure foundation.
- Gain and retain the musical skills and concepts.
- Fun! The enjoyment enables students to access and apply their learning more successfully.
Your child will develop many positive character traits when participating in our group music lessons. Although children may have a specific musical style, they tend to share the same purpose (learning music). Our goal at JMA is to ensure that children within a group setting collaborate and support each other while they creatively learn together. The curriculum we use allows a child to join our group lessons at any point without feeling left behind. Children will be able to move in their own space, while students will learn from each other, create healthy competition, building dependency and trust. It is also a great setting to meet like-minded friends and create lasting bonds. If your child tends to be timid, a group setting is also a great place to start their musical journey.

How can I Participate in the Reduced & Free Lunch-Based Discount Program?
Jay’s Music Academy offers reduced and free lunch lesson tuition, which parents can benefit from. Parents are responsible for obtaining a letter from their school showing their child’s participation in a Reduced or Free Lunch Program. Parents whose schools don’t have such a program can complete JMA’s Reduced & Free Lunch-Based Discount Program Application and show proof of income to be eligible for the discounted tuition. JMA uses the State of Florida household and income requirements to determine eligibility. Please call our office at 321-312-1787 to request an application.
Why JMA does not offer month-to-month lessons?
Learning an instrument takes commitment. Parents should discuss the goal of taking music Lessons with their children. The goal may change over time, but this gives the parent a starting point on how much to invest in the child’s music education.
Month-to-month lessons do not offer long-term value to students and do not encourage long-term commitment to learning music.
JMA offers a 4-week trial program to parents who are interested in our program.
How many lessons do students participate in monthly?
Generally, students will participate in 4-5 monthly lessons if scheduled to meet once weekly.

What is your Role as a Parents, Grandparents or Guardian?
Because music education is a shared journey, we intentionally define the role of parents and grandparents as supervisors, guides, and supporters, not teachers. Our philosophy removes the pressure often placed on families to “teach” at home.
Instead, adults are invited to observe, encourage, and create an environment where learning is valued and celebrated. This partnership supports not only the child’s progress, but also helps grown‑ups gain insight, confidence, and appreciation for the learning process—fulfilling our mission to help grown‑ups grow too.
Why do we Educate and Not Simply Entertain?
Education Over Entertainment
While joy and engagement are essential, our purpose is not simply to entertain. We welcome the challenge of teaching in a way that develops character—patience, resilience, emotional expression, and self‑awareness. Music becomes a pathway through which students learn to express themselves and navigate challenges with confidence and creativity.
Can I observe a class before enrolling?
To maintain a focused and private learning environment, we do not allow live class observations. Instead, families are welcome to schedule a Studio Visit or enroll in our 4‑Week Trial to experience our approach in a meaningful way.
How do we help our students grow?
At its core, our philosophy recognizes that every student arrives with a unique set of abilities, experiences, and rhythms. Because of this, we do not measure success by how quickly a student moves, nor by how long they spend in individual instruction. Instead, we focus on steady, confident growth over time.
We believe that true learning happens when students feel supported, understood, and challenged at the right moment. Our role as educators is to meet each student where they are—emotionally, cognitively, and musically—and guide them forward in a way that feels both achievable and encouraging.
Through music, children learn perseverance, focus, emotional expression, and self-awareness. These qualities extend far beyond the classroom and become foundational life skills. This is why we welcome the challenge of teaching for character development, not simply entertainment.
